Learning at BDSC

Botany Downs Secondary College offers a broad range of courses designed to meet the needs, interests and aspirations of our diverse learners.

Our curriculum meets the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum, with key competencies and values developed across eight Learning Areas. Students are supported through Tutor Mentoring, encouraging them to understand how they learn, reflect on their academic goals and take an active role in their progress.

The College operates a 25-period weekly timetable, with five one-hour periods each day from Monday to Friday.

Pathways to Success

Our academic programme develops as students progress through the College, providing strong foundations in the junior years and increasing choice and specialisation as students move into senior study.

Junior Years 9–10

Year 9 provides students with a broad foundation across the curriculum, with all subjects compulsory. In Year 10, students continue their core learning while beginning to explore their individual interests through option subjects.

Senior Years 11–13

Senior students have increasing opportunities to shape their learning around their strengths, interests and future goals. BDSC offers a broad range of courses, the BDSC Year 11 Diploma and NCEA qualifications at Levels 2 and 3.
