A school within a school
The Whānau system is at the heart of BDSC and forms the foundation of our approach to student education and pastoral care.
When students enrol, they become part of one of six Whānau – a smaller community of students and teachers from across all year levels. Students remain within their Whānau throughout their time at the College, helping to build strong relationships and a lasting sense of belonging.
Each Whānau has its own dedicated area within the College. These spaces act as a “home away from home”, where students can gather before and after school and during breaks. They are also used for Whānau assemblies, where achievements are celebrated and students come together as a community.
