Getting started
Enrolling at Botany Downs Secondary College begins with checking whether your usual home address is inside the school zone. You can then complete the appropriate application and provide the required supporting documents.
Once your application has been processed, the College will contact you about an enrolment interview. Written confirmation follows completion of the enrolment process.
Four steps to enrolment
Follow these steps in order. The College will be in touch when it is time to arrange an interview.
STEP 01
Check your zone
Check the school zone before applying. Students whose usual place of residence is within the home zone are entitled to enrol. Out-of-zone places are limited and allocated through a ballot.
STEP 02
Complete your application
In-zone applications are completed online throughout the year. Out-of-zone applications use a printed form, available only during the advertised application period. Submit all required supporting documents with your application.
STEP 03
Attend an interview
Once your application has been processed, the College will contact you to arrange an enrolment interview for the student and parent or caregiver. This is an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the student’s year level.
STEP 04
Receive confirmation
The starting date is discussed at the interview. The College will provide information about uniform and stationery and send confirmation in writing.
Before you apply
Please review the documentation requirements on the main Enrolments page. Incomplete applications may not be processed.
Supporting documents
Applications must include the supplementary documents required for your circumstances. This may include evidence of your usual residential address and relevant student or guardianship documentation. See the main Enrolments page for the full requirements.
Guardianship and care arrangements
Where an application relies on a legal guardianship order or authorised primary duty of care, the College requires evidence that the arrangement is long-standing and was not created solely to gain entry. For authorised primary duty of care, written evidence from a New Zealand lawyer is required.
Out-of-zone applications and ballot
Out-of-zone places are limited and determined through a ballot. The number available depends on in-zone applications. Paper application forms are provided only when applications are open. Dates, forms and ballot priority information should be checked with the College for the relevant intake.
Enrolment interviews
Each student attends an interview. The existing College guidance indicates approximately 20 minutes for Year 9 and 30 minutes for Years 10–13. Interviews are conducted by senior school staff, including the Senior Leadership Team, Whānau Leaders or Heads of Learning.
